The GIT affects the asthmatics directly and indirectly. Patients with both bronchial asthma and GOR or gastroesophageal reflux may have attacks of acute sever asthma due to the return of gastric acid in the esophagus. The condition may lead to the state of asthma not responding to treatment.
The second condition is the common condition of the irritable bowel syndrome with gas syndrome type. The distended colon just elevate the diaphragm and reduce the thoracic capacity and put extra effort on the thoracic wall and other respiratory muscles to distend the lung. This causes shortness of breath after meals.
Therefore when the asthmatic patients has any GIT disturbances before using more drugs the GIT should be well controlled.
